YOU BE THE JUDGE!

Community Justice Salford has held a number of interactive sentencing events.  The next events are scheduled for March and October/November 2008 (dates to be confirmed).  These events have proved hugely popular with the community in the past.

The aim of the sentencing events is to explain the different types of sentence available, and to explore the communities views on sentencing in general.  The events includes an interactive ask the audience style session where cases are outlined, and delegates are asked to vote using electronic keypads on what sentence they feel the defendant should have received.  The actual sentence given is then revealed, and a District Judge gives his view on the factors that may have influenced that decision.  There is also be an opportunity to ask questions.

There are a limited number of places available for events and attendance must be reserved. If you are intersted in attending one fo the events please telephone 0161 831 9526 ext 1 379 or email caroline.earle@hmcourts-service.gsi.gov.uk

Please note: that while some actual cases are used the Judge and Magistrates are not able to comment on individual case outcomes or discuss actual cases.
